Forskning og økonomisk udvikling - estimationer i Dansk økonomi, forår 1997

Abstract:

This paper provides the technical background for three analyses of R&D in Denmark presented in Danish Economy, Spring 1997. One analysis discusses the external effects of public R&D in a model describing demand for production factors in the private business sector. The analysis finds that there is a social benefit associated with public investment in R&D. Another analysis assesses the demand for private R&D. These calculations show that manufacturing industry would enhance their R&D activities if possibilities for tax deductions of R&D expenses were increased further. Finally, the effects of technological development on the demand for certain skills within the labour force are discussed. This analysis concludes that Danish technological progress is skill-biased, i.e. that demand for skilled and other labour has grown at the expense of unskilled labour due to technological progress.
