Abstract:

The unemployment benefit system in seven countries is compared in order to get an impression of the generosity of the different systems. Both the institutional systems and the levels of compensation are compared. The unemployment benefit system is voluntary only in Denmark and Finland, while it is mandatory in the other countries. Even though the maximum duration of unemployment benefit has been reduced to two years in Denmark, the system is still one of the most generous among seven countries.
